A Historic Renovation –  In taking on the renovation of the historic 1913 Sun Theatre in St. Louis, the Lawrence Group, a design/construction firm, called on IWEISS to help with one of their challenges. The original grid iron and hemp system was not ideally laid out for a dead hung installation necessitated by budget restrictions while raising money for a new counter-weight or motorized system.  IWEISS  project manager, Russ Dusek and support staff worked with the architects to come up with a way of resolving the load to the structural steel which accommodated the new dead hung main curtain and traveler track, valance and masking curtains in the locations the owner wanted them as well as allowing for a motorized fire curtain to meet current codes. The 1500 seat Theatre is also used by the students of theGrand Center Arts Academy who, along with the faculty, are “in awe” of the updated and usable jewel of a theatre.   Photos by:  Michael Kelley
